This coming week be on the look out on channel 14 for the commissioners, the word is that the topic will be COUNTY OWNED FIBER OPTICS

If you have not already, you need to send an email message to not just your district commissioner but to all of them. Tell them: We do not need it, we do not want it and we especially do not want to taxed for it, not now, NOT EVER!

If these sitting commissioners pass this fiber optics nonsense that they are trying their best to pursuad the Henry citizens is such a good thing, then get out your already half empty wallets my friends. There is no way that an endeavor of this size will not cost the taxpayers. If they get away with this now, after they are voted out, (which many of us striving toward) their replacements will ultimately be saddled with the contract debts incurred while these commissioners were in office. Most of the time they do not listen to us, perhaps 3 of them will on this issue, it will take 2 no votes and 1 to obstain or recuse himself, to stop B.J. Mathis's agenda she has planned. Of course that is a really BIG long shot no doubt considering the tract records of these sitting commissioners of their voting. I would not place good money on it.

So my fellow citizens if you really want to see what your district commissioners are made of watch the meetings. If you can not watch them on TV and you have access to a computer, the meetings are archived and video viewable at http://www.co.henry.ga.us/

On channel 14 you can view real time BOC meetings: the first and third Monday of the month at 9AM. The first Tuesday at 9AM and the third Tueday at 6:30PM, all these meetings are held a the Henry County Administration Building, 140 Henry Parkway, McDonough. These meeting are open to the public. Citizens can sign up for public comments, public comments can be about any topic a citizen wishes to address.

You are right Birdie, they need to watch and see what their money pays for here in Henry County. It doesn't take a professional to see that most of the meetings are scripted and that most of what is being discussed has already been decided. The meetings are generally for looks. Watch Mr. Basler stutter his was through, Mr. Bowman blow up at citizens voicing their views, Mr. Holder riding the fence, Mr. Stamey looking like Donald Trump, Mr. Jeffares playing the mute, and of course BJ playing our events director. If for nothing else it's good comedy.

This is too important to let it slide, we are in a time where the actions of the Commissioners could set this County back 20 years economically and that would bring it in line for the 20 some things of today to pay back. Do we want to do this to them, because when they get older they will be running things and taking care of us and who knows what they would do, remembering what we did to them now. The Commissioners have had their way for far too long and it has got to stop or we may not have a County to call our own to live in. These Commissioners must come down from their ivory towers and see it from our point of view. They need to stop thinking of themselves and their back pockets and stop taking all of the kick-backs. I am posting this using high-speed DSL, we don’t need any more can they not understand this? Please get out and let your Commissioners know what you think and hopefully they will hear you over all of their money rolling around in their pockets and do the right thing.

REMOVED from the Agenda for the BoC Feb. 2nd meeting:

C. REMOVED - Resolution regarding the Declaration of Official Intent to finance preliminary costs of consideration of Fiber Optic Broadband Project (Presenter: Clark Rainer, Technology Services Director)

Exhibit #7

The Workshop presentation is pure Bovine Scatology! The hack presenting his own services calls it an investment! He also says there would be no tv or phone services.... that is NOT what the resolution says!

How stupid do they think we are?

Check this out. The Workshop video is at the county website. Allen Davis of Rural Broadband said there is no plan or intent to sell tv or phone services.

Check this out. The Herald article featured Clark Rainer, county IT Director. He said we can sell access to cell phone providers.

They MUST get the story straight.

They say that when anyone in county government tells a lie, BJ Mathis gets a commission!

It was good to see Johnny Basler stand up for the citizens of this county. I know he looked uncomfortable in doing so but it was the right thing to do. And you are right when they can't even get their stories straight on what is planned for this project then they look foolish presented there wares and have proved they didn't learn well from their parents. Mr. Rainer knows better and as far as Mr. Davis is concerned he is a banker from the Georgia coast. Should we say more.

I have a question for those that saw the presentation. Did some of the stuff they said they would use it for seem like big brother to you it did me? I too am glad to see Commissioner Basler asking questions and raising concern about spending $14+ Million it these hard times we are having.

This comment is in reference to The Doctor's comment. I was suprised to read it especially since in the past it seemed that he supported at least Commissioners Basler and Bowman. I have been reading the different county blogs for a while now. I know quite a few people who live over in the area where the Doctor lives. Doc, wasnt Mr Bowman the one you would call when you wanted to get anything done, I think he was instramental in helping to get those burned out houses moved out from over in the area, I know he helped to try to clean up some areas where we live and I am grateful to him for that. I thought that I read somewhere that you considered him to be your friend and that you too had gone way back and known each other along time? I have even heard you say that you could call on him to help out with things in the neighborhood and he had always been helpful. Confused?

Dear confused and anonymous, my references to Mr. Bowman are based in fact as to what has been seen on TV. But yes I do consider him to be a friend, and yes he has done a lot of things to fix our area but it wasn't only for me it was for the community. There are things you do not know or understand about how people can be friends and disagree with one another. I will take up for my friend any time any where when he is right but when I see a problem then it is my right to say otherwise. It seems that the thirtysomething crowd still doesn't understand the older generation. If you think telling all you have is hurting me it does not. What hurts me is the fact that my friend hasn't gotten in touch with me and I have emailed him several times. We had a death in the community and I reported that and no answer. I have another blood clot in my right leg but still no answer. Believe it or not and I am sure that there are a lot who want this to happen the old Doctor is terminally ill. I could go at any time. Now think very long and carefully before you answer. Have a nice day even if it makes you think.

Dear Anonymous and Mike,

I would like to clear up a few things that have been stated in both posts. Yes, Anon. I have been very active in trying to resolve problems and issues in the Highlands area and in Mike's community. Without his help in identifying these problem areas, I might have never known about those problems. It is true that Mike has been a friend of mine and known people that I have known from church and the Glen Haven Community in Decatur. It is true that he does not agree with me all the time but neither does my wife. Nor do I agree with his comments all the time. Upon being elected to office, Mike and I took a ride around the community. One of the things that you made reference to was a home that had been burned out. Upon walking this site, I found different graffitti had been painted in an old broken down storage house and I was afraid that some kid could be snatched up and taken, never to be seen again. I made that a priority to get that torn down and hauled away as I felt it was a dangerous nuisance in the community. Mike has made a comment about me blowing up at citizens simply voicing their views. Obviously he was not watching the same program that I was sitting in. However, I will not allow anyone to cuss me or use profanity directly against me in a public setting. There are laws against that and I could have insisted on having that gentlemen arrested for disturbing the peace. Another issue that came up during a meeting was when a developer wanted to put a driveway to exit his site into a subdivision, as opposed to exiting on Jonesboro ROad where it would have been more expensive. This gentlemen continually stated that it would be the BOC's fault should someone be seriously injured by his developement by entering on Jonesboro Road. I took exception to that. There have been a few times when I have been passionate about certain issues. How can one pick out a couple of instances when there has literally been hundreds of hours of these meetings. As to the person in the community that passed away and as to Mike's health issues, let me make a few comments. In the last week, there have been 3 people that passed away on my wife's Meals on Wheels route that we deliver food to every Wednesday. Also, more than once per week, a family member of an employee of Henry County passes away. A brother, a sister, a mother, an aunt, an uncle, a cousin, a child, a father, a grandfather, grandmother. On another issue, a few short months ago, while out of town on a conference, I was called and told that my 12 year old grandson -that his blood sugar was over 500 and that he was being rushed to Scottish Rite. My 17 year old grandson was rushed to the hospital after a Wrestling Match which has lead to numerous doctor visits with 4 different specialist. My wife's cousin and my best friend has cancer in his lungs and liver and has just been told that he has exhausted all forms of chemo and it is no longer working. Another very close friend, his 24 year old son was rushed to the hospital with an abcess on his brain and has been in a coma ever since. I am sorry that you Mike are sick. Quite frankly, I would be happy if my two grandsons, werent going through what they are going through, if my wife's cousin was cancer free, if Craig would wake up from his coma and if you was in perfect health. In closing, I do consider Mike, Linda and Michael my friends and I wish them all well.
