VOTERS IN GWINNETT STAND TOGETHER TO RECALL THEIR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, WAY TO GO GWINNETT!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Gwinnett County Elections Office has issued applications to recall three county commissioners. The move comes one week after the five-member board voted 4-1 to increase the property tax rate by almost 21 percent.

Recall applications were filed for Commission Chairman Charles Bannister, District 1 Commissioner Shirley Lasseter and District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau. Commissioners Kevin Kenerly and Bert Nasuti, who both voted in favor of the tax hike, are not seeking reelection in 2010. Beaudreau was the commission's lone dissenter on the vote.

Organizers of the drive have until Dec. 23 to collect the signatures of 100 registered voters living in the district affected. Election workers would have four days to verify the signatures. If the applications are certified, the elections office would then issue recall petitions, which in turn would have to carry the names of 30 percent of registered voters in the district.

This means organizers would have 45 days to get 28,000 signatures to recall Lasseter, 41,000 to recall Beadreau and 126,000 to recall Bannister. If successful, the elections office would schedule a special election to put the recall to a vote.
Lend your hopes and prayers that these citizens prevail

Nobody in their right mind would want a Clorox storage facility that close to their homes. The homeowners did not get the help they needed at the zoning advisory board. That could be that someone on that board is very close to the Lambert family. Remember the fire in Conyers a few years ago that was burning chlorine. It even caused streaks on granite toombstones miles away. This could be a hazard in the making and if they think it will bring in a lot of new jobs for locals they can forget that. It will be like the Whirlpool facility they brought people in from other facilities. One question that might would be asked is this: How much of a tax break are they giving Clorox to come to Henry County? It is all about money and where it goes.

Absolutely, that is why we need to support HR75 in order to bring equality back to our citizens.

I am afraid it is a done deal. As the HenryCitizen pointed out to me the zoning plans for the Hwy 42 corridor allows for this type of development to occur. The best we in the area can hope for now is good barrier requirements for the noise and no traffic allowed on King Mill or Iris Lake.
Not only will my property value go down, I fear for my children's safety at Tussahaw Elem. School. If there were to be an evacuation they have plans to go to a facility that would still be considered the "hot zone" by the fire department. Saddest part of all is the county brought this to the Lambert family. I sent the HenryCitizen some commentary on this to include in his next publication that details what I mean.

I don't doubt it a bit that the county brought Clorox to the Lamberts. The county has done this many times here in our county. Take a good look around at whose properties have been selected for prime businesses over the years. The land belonged to a long time family with ties to county government. It hasn't just started.

I sincerely hope that those people who live close to this site turn out in numbers just to let our BoC know they are there and that they mean something. People are more than just a vote when election time comes around.

The time is nearing for the meeting about the Clorox storage facility. I hope the neighbors of this facility are prepared to let the BoC know how they feel. I hope that they turn out in mass. Home owners have more rights than they are led to believe. Sure private property owners have rights also but when it is a degradation to the area then the homeowners do have a right to complain.

It was really good to see the turn out at the BoC meeting tonight. They got to see how our commissioners do things. They all voted in favor to rezone the property and did not even listen to the people in the audience. There is no voice of the people when it comes to zoning changes. They might have shot themselves in the foot on this one. We will see with time.

What I Saw at the BOC Meeting

What I saw at the December 15, 2009 meeting of the Henry County Board of Commissioners is six people that had been bought off to help a friend. The meeting room was packed with people, citizens of Henry County that brought up valid points as to why this rezoning should not take place. The people brought up high traffic on small roads with large trucks. The Commissioners could care less about multitudes of large trucks on small County roads, that is what they said when they raised their hand to vote yes on the rezoning. The citizens brought up the fact about the property being on a watershed for County water supply. The Commissioners said they don’t care about the County water supply when they raise their hands to vote yes on the rezoning. The people even brought up that the property is very close to a school and children would be in danger from the high truck traffic. The Commissioners said they could care less about Henry County Children when they raised their hands to vote yes on the rezoning of the property.

The property owner Mr. Ray Lambert stated very well that his father started the farm many years ago. He stated he got married on the farm and had worked it. Then Mr. Lambert proceeded to tell the Commissioners and the citizens of Henry County that he could care less about his family history or the history of the County by fighting tooth and nail to get this rezoning done by any means. Mr. Lambert is looking for the all mighty Dollar and is willing to sell out his family history for that Dollar.

A historic family in Henry County even came to speak in opposition to the rezoning.
Mr. Nail who is bounded by the subject property on two sides to the North stated that he was very concerned about two small ponds and rain runoff and other concerns were brought up also. But even Mr. Nail’s comments fell on dead ears of the Commissioners who were counting their money.

Oh sure the Commissioners put on a good show by asking good questions that made a good point, but remember election time is coming up for two Commissioners and they were some of the ones asking the questions. Mr. Bowman asked good questions but did not follow thru when he did not like the answer, but in the end his hand went up to vote yes. Mr. Bassler asked good questions but in the end he voted yes. Mr. Holder stated he had family members that live near by and said he lives about three miles from the property. And yet he voted yes, in the end money talks and citizens can inhale chlorine while the Commissioners stroll to the bank.

I must say that I am very proud of the citizens of the King Mill Road area; they are well spoken and well organized. I hope the rest of the County citizens take a lesson from these great citizens that fought a good fight. Yes they lost but they gave it a great effort and I hope more citizens step up and take on the money hungry Commissioners of Henry County, if we keep the heat on them they may get tired of defending them selves and give up there money grabbing ways, if not we just need to fire them come election time.

From some information that I have read in the Henry Citizen Newsletter these homeowners were dead in the water before they ever went to the meeting. This decision had already been made and was begun as far back as 1996 when the Lamberts brought in big business builders to hunt on their property and of course while they were here the Henry County government under the guise of Bob White would take these people around to sites that they wanted developed in Henry County.
