More Problems for the BoC
Fox 5 News made a report on February 8 and will be continued on the 9th about how the property was acquired for the new police and fire training area. The land is 166 acres owned by Chief of Police Russ Abernathy and his nephew. The Chief sold his part to the nephew and then it was sold to the county for $4 million. This property sits in the far lower end of the county in district 1. Warren Holder said that he had not looked at any other properties for this facility. He also said that the reason they bought this was to move the old facility away from where it was because of a stray bullet hit a house nearby. The problem with the story is that the stray bullet incident did not happen until a full three months after the county bought the land.

The old police firing range was near Tara Field. A place that might have potential for future development by the friends of Chairperson BJ Mathis if acquired from Clayton County. There have been many instances of land acquisition that is questionable. Such as lands for Wetlands Mitigation Banks, a large raise for an employee of the county who just happened to be the daughter of the Chairmans Election Committee Treasurer, land bought on Jonesboro Rd. that had belonged to the brother of our former Sheriff, land that was reassessed to bring a larger amount on Jonesboro Rd. at N. Mt. Carmel Rd that could link up with the Dutchtown Schools, and the list goes on and on. Property bought in McDonough to build the new parking deck that was of little value but was purchased for $750,000.
This doesn't even count the land bought at Nash Farm for over $8 million which today is still sitting there doing nothing.

The people of Henry County have been thoroughly soaked for money over the past 10 years. The money spent on the Courthouse Renovations and the new Jail with cost over runs that added up to quite a sum. Who benefitted from all this? This is a question that needs answering for the people of Henry County. The land next to the new Jail just purchased for quite a sum, this connects also with the land of the Cotton Fields already bought for nearly $20 million now that's bringing golf to the people isn't it. And one commissioner owns property adjacent to this also, but I don't believe he has intentions of selling it.

All in all, our BoC has found a way to bring itself into the limelight again. Chief Abernathy did not look happy with the press speaking with him. And as Fox 5 reminded us it was just after his interview that he announced his retirement. There are several who will be wanting his job including one who has some baggage of his own. I have seen the court papers filed in 2008 about this person and it names the Chief also. I don't blame him, I believe I would go to Tennessee also
with all that is going on here.

We have had top leadership dropping like flies here in our county. It would be interesting to sit in on those meetings where they are given a chance to retire. I wonder how well it is presented to them? Maybe it is with one commissioner and policeman telling them they are not part of the program anymore and it is time for them to leave. This sounds appropriate for Henry County leadership. Our County is a fine county here in our beautiful State of Georgia, but it is those who live here that have found a way to cast a shadow upon the land. I truly hope things get better here because this activity has to end somewhere.

LIES. Graft.

Commissioner Warren Holder admitted plans for a residential neighborhood fell through because,”there was no market for it.”

County government bought the land. They did not even look at other parcels. This is really no different than the favorable zoning changes approved for property owned by our former Sheriff and his family --- just before his retirement.

They Did It To Us Again

Once again the inept crooked politicians we call the Henry County Board of Commissioners have hung us the taxpayers out to dry. Again Fox5 had to come to Henry County to expose the County Government for what it is, a self - centered out of control little brat spending money in a toy store. It’s not enough that we spent $8+Million on a lie called Nash Farm. It’s not enough that our Chairman of the BOC sued us the taxpayers of Henry County so she could represent us. It’s not enough that the Chairman starts a Life Management solutions department to help her friends out with a job at a cost we have to pay so she can look good. And it’s not enough that this Chairman wants the County taxpayers to buy Tara Field Airport so she can pay back a friend that help fund her campaign to get into office so she could fleece us some more. Now we learn that the County bought land for a police training facility from the police chief’s family to the tune of $4 Million. And now the police Chief has resigned and is heading to the hills in Tennessee with our tax money, boy I need a stiff drink. What is wrong with these people I sometimes wonder if they are people. I just hope that maybe the State or the Feds hear about this and start an investigation into the practices of the Henry County Board Of Commissioners. If President Obama himself came down and told the BOC that they had to give back all the money the government had given the County and it would be them not us the taxpayers that would have to pay it back, I would be glad to shake his hand.
It is apparent that they are hard to work with look at how many high-ranking workers have quit or retired, it is easy to see they don’t play well with others. I believe the wrong ones have retired, the whole lot of the BOC needs to retire they have out served their usefulness to the County and it’s people.

There is one thing that I have not heard or seen anyone talk about with this entire situation, and that is the old police firing range in Hampton. I know Doc you said it is land connected to the airport. What about the bullet that hit the house, yes it hit the house after the County bought the land. What I am getting to is why did a bullet from a police firing range hit a house? In my experience it comes down to one of two things. One officers horsing around with their fire arms or bad range design. From what I have seen of the Henry County police officers that I have known over the years horsing around is very very slim chance of this being the problem. That leaves bad range design, from what I saw this could have been avoided and it could have been fixed with out buying another property. A higher and thicker berm with precautionary wings on each side would have been a better design. In today’s world our police must be well trained and live firing is a must, we must make sure that it takes place safely so no harm comes to anyone. That is also part of the police motto “To Protect And Serve”.

I have read all these posts with great interest. Several things come to mind. First, to "the Doctor", you mentioned a commissioner owning land like it was some big secret. Which commissioner owns land over there, how long has he owned it, has he ever tried to sell it, ect, ect, ect. Second, also to "the Doctor", you mentioned a candidate for chief, but you failed to mention that the person that you are trying to stir something up on didnt even apply for the position?? Why try to ruin someone when he didnt even put in for it? Everyone keeps talking about the range in Forsyth and how it is free and all. Its hardly free. It takes close to an hour to get there. It takes gas to get there. If you have to pay the officer to go, pay for his gas, pay for the upkeep on the cars for driving that far out of the county, folks, that is not "free". Then there is always the people that dont have absolutely nothing else better to do that would call and complain because they saw a HCPD car outside the county (that does happen) then you are paying another officer to find out what was going on and report back to the "concerned citizen". The chief was a breath of fresh air after the previous cheif, but its time to move on. If some 3 year old had been killed by a stary bullet from the old firing range, Henry County would be paying ridiculous money and then all of you who seem to know so much would be raising cain about that. To Asa, its rather obvious that you must not know anyone who works under some of these "higher ups" that have quickly retired. You might find that the people under them are happy, extremely happy that they are moving on. Ask how many officers/firefighters have left in the past 2 years. That might tell you that some decisions really dont have anything to do with whether or not they can get along with a commissioner or two.

To anonymous: nothing was mentioned about the commissioners name because as I said he has no intentions of selling it. And the person who has baggage attached to them that as we have been told for some time has been groomed for the job of chief didn't apply maybe it was for reasons that bothered them. But how can you ruin someone if their name is not brought out. The commissioner who owns the land has had it for years and that is why he doesn't plan on selling it because he is making money from it in rent which if he can good for him. But having something to say about what was written they cannot deny it is true. But a child often will come to the defense of a parent when they feel their parent is being hurt. No that parent isn't being hurt because what if someone else reported this and it could have been done in an ugly way. Maybe politics is not where this commissioner should be and maybe police work is not suitable for the other. Don't worry though my young friend this old man won't be around too much longer the way things are going just to write about the truth. He came to me and wanted the truth about Nash Farm and he got it. Then after I was used for this purpose I am to go away. That's not the way things work though in the real world.

To anonymous,

Do you honestly think that someone is going to openly complain about working for these type people? No they are not, they are afraid of the Commissioners because of what they know about them and how they are running the County.
They do not want to be involved in all of the wrong doing by the Commissioners. Doctor, from your last post it appears you know who this anonymous person is. If this is true what is wrong with then something mental or have they not grown up yet? If this is a child than maybe their parents need to spend more time teaching their kid some values instead of ripping off the taxpayers of the County.
